Where was Mary Filmed?
Ouarzazate, Morocco
Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Sahara,” served as a key filming location for Mary. This region has hosted many epic historical and biblical films due to its vast, untouched desert landscapes and traditional structures. Specific scenes depicting the family’s journey through the harsh deserts of Egypt were shot here, adding authenticity to the film’s depiction of ancient times.
The filming unit also used studio facilities located in “Ouarzazate, Morocco” to film several interior and exterior scenes.

Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou
Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, also served as a key filming location. This ancient mudbrick fortress, known for its dramatic architecture, was used to portray the timeless desert settings in Mary.
When Did the Filming of Mary Take Place?
Filming for Mary took place between January 24, 2024, and March 18, 2024. The early months of 2024 provided mild weather conditions, making the challenging desert scenes in Morocco more manageable for the cast and crew.
The production team worked extensively to recreate historical settings, with a dedicated focus on the costumes, architecture, and ambiance that would fit the film’s period setting. The cast and crew faced intense conditions, especially during desert scenes, but expressed admiration for the cultural richness Morocco offered to enhance the film’s authenticity.
