Paramount Studios, Los Angeles, California
Paramount Studios is where most of Matlock was filmed. Located at 5555 Melrose Avenue, the studio has been used for many famous movies and shows. For Matlock, they created detailed sets to look like real New York City locations. This included courtrooms and office buildings. Filming in a studio made it easier to control things like lighting and weather, which helped keep the filming on schedule.
New York City, New York
To make the show feel more real, the production team used shots of New York City. You can see famous spots like Central Park and Columbus Circle in the show. These scenes help set the mood and make viewers feel like they are in the heart of New York’s legal world.
When Did the Filming of Matlock (2024) Take Place?

Re Matlock location shooting – they are better off having the cast come out to New York City to shoot exterior scenes when needed, because second unit stock photography can only go so far, especially if the cast is coming out of a tenament and you’re on a Los Angeles street corner where the crew failed to cover LA bus stop markers in spite of the fact that they used New York MTA signs.
Also, if they’re insisting on shooting courtroom scenes, they should have the decency to either put on the wall “In God We Trust” or the New York State Unified Court System seal on the wall, not to mention dressing the court guards in NYS uniforms and not NYPD uniforms. A little more authenticity, please.
Finally, there is no 450 5th Avenue, but there is a 452 5th Avenue in Manhattan. The production crew should also film the real 452 5th Avenue and use that building (the lobby was recreated quite well in the pilot episode).
Filming in New York would also help the characters’ personas greatly. One saw the change when Ugly Betty moved shooting from LA to NYC, and the city itself really does have an effect on actors big time. Otherwise, the show is excellent, but it needs that Noo Yawker attitude a bit more and less LA studio style,
