Marissa Bode’s Funny Fall on Wicked Set: “It Was Really Epic!”

Marissa Bode, making her movie debut as Nessarose in the film adaptation of Wicked, had a memorable moment during the filming of the “Dancing Through Life” sequence with Ethan Slater’s Boq.

The actress took a tumble while performing a dance move, describing it with a laugh as “really epic.” While she found it amusing, the production team was worried she might be hurt.

“Everyone else around me looked so concerned, but I couldn’t stop laughing,” Bode shared. Slater, though, admitted the laughter made them worry more, thinking it might mean something serious.

Bode, who enjoys a thrill, also had fun with the wirework for a scene where her character and wheelchair are sent flying by Elphaba’s magic. “I was supposed to look scared, but as soon as the cameras stopped rolling, I kept saying, ‘Let’s do it again!’”

The scene, which showcases Boq inviting Nessarose to dance, is pivotal in building their relationship. According to Bode, it’s a defining moment for Nessarose, while Slater emphasized the genuine bond their characters form.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: Part One is in theaters now, with Part Two set to release in 2025. Featuring a star-studded cast including Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum, and Michelle Yeoh, the film brings the beloved Broadway musical to the big screen in dazzling style.
