Where Was Red Sun Filmed?
Red Sun was entirely filmed in Spain in 1971 from February to March. Here are the detailed locations where filming took place:
La Calahorra, Granada, Andalucía
The railroad scenes in Red Sun were filmed in La Calahorra, located in Granada, Andalucía. This area offered the perfect setting for the dramatic train-related sequences in the film.
Adra, Almería, Spain
The mission set, the reeds, and the Comanche attack scenes were filmed around Albufera Honda, near Adra, in Almería. The surrounding terrain and natural beauty provided the ideal backdrop for these action-packed scenes.
Tabernas, Almería, Andalucía
Many of the film’s iconic desert scenes were filmed in the Tabernas Desert, located in Almería, Andalucía. This desert has a rich history in cinema, particularly for Spaghetti Westerns, and its rugged, arid landscape was perfect for the film’s Wild West atmosphere.
Rambla de Lanujar, Gádor, Almería, Andalucía
Link and Kuroda’s walk through the canyon was filmed at Rambla de Lanujar, Gádor. The striking, narrow canyon provided the perfect location for this key moment in the film.
Cueva de Roque, Almería, Andalucía
Gauch’s hideout was filmed in the Cueva de Roque, Almería, a cave now located on Calle José Manuel Gómez Angulo. This cave setting added to the mystery and danger surrounding Gauch’s character.
Turre, Almería, Andalucía, Spain
The river scenes, filmed along the Río Aguas in Turre, Almería, brought a refreshing change of scenery. The flowing water contrasted with the desert landscapes of the other filming locations.
Manzanares el Real, Madrid
The encounter between the protagonists and Gauch’s henchmen, set on a farm, was filmed in Manzanares el Real, Madrid. The area’s rural setting added to the tension of this scene.
